SHOW #4: THE ELEVATIONISTS:
By Robert Strati
OPEN July 19th 2012

Curated By Robert Strati & Paul Darragh

Manhattan Born was proud to present The Elevationists, featuring beautiful and delicate floating sculptures and diagrams.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The Elevationists is a an exhibit inspired by the idea of great thinkers who contemplated flight, space and documenting the invisible in attempts to move beyond our everyday reality.

The balloon pieces entitled "Hover" are a way of accessing flight, empty space and creating form in usually inaccessible areas - drawing the viewer's eye upward and into a space generally ignored because there is often nothing there.

The diagrams explore the underlying language used in documenting ideas in schematic forms - encouraging the viewer to access that way of seeing and thinking - both abstract and analytical.

ABOUT

For Manhattan Born's launch show,
we kept it internal - a celebration of
our neighborhood!

Presenting; East Village I Love You, a visual interpretation of our beloved streets.

This show is an exploration of the textures, attitudes and sights of the
East Village.

The show features a large painted canvas, three screen prints (also featured on our t-shirt collection), a large paste-up mural comprised of photos from the neighborhood and a short video. A truly multimedia experience.

Technically this show embraces mediums which are seen on the streets. The intention was to bring the outside in, while keeping coherent with the Manhattan Born brand.
